Fix our roads for free campaign....

I was prompted to think about this today - are you fed up with the state of the roads, the fact you have to regularly dodge potholes? Are you also cheesed off with the number of speed humps breaking your suspension? So am I - but here is the answer - simply use the material earmarked for speed humps to fill in all the potholes and there you have it, smooth roads with no potholes and no speed humps - that's what I would call a win, win situation - and guess what, if we all use our eyes, brains and control our right foot then safety does not need to be an issue - so maybe win, win, win - what do you think? Okay, maybe a simplistic idea, but actually have you noticed how many seemingly quite dangerous ideas some councils have come up with to so say make it safer in built up areas. Exeter, for example, have started to build high kerbs at 90 degrees out into roads. If you catch one of these with a wheel then even at 20mph there is the likely-hood of a unnecessary accident. Driving a bus or ambulance over the ridiculous number of speed humps which are differing size, shape, height and often with large potholes attached must be a nightmare - it's bad enough trying to avoid breaking a normal car. It seems to me that many of these ideas are dreamed up in offices by people who have little or no concept of the whole 'safety' picture. I would like to know how much it costs to 'engineer' a speed hump. Surely they should at least be the same size, height etc - or is it left to the discretion of one of the road maintenance crew who have the tarmac etc on their truck to decide what shape to make - a sort of 'free road art!!' If you have a view on road safety in built up areas then share our views and maybe we can take this further.
