the unseen police car......

have you noticed how police cars are changing colour? for the last probably thirty years the police have used white cars covered with various reflective stickers (the current trend is yellow and blue) but it seems now that silver is the in colour for police cars. of course this has little to do with visibility, you know we're all programmed to notice a white mondeo or volvo in the rear view mirror, no its to do with the value of the cars when they sell them off. some clever little police chappie has worked out after thirty years that silver cars are worth more than white ones. if they had asked a motor trader a long time ago and they could have probably saved the cost of a few hundred police salaries or a load of new cars! so if you don't mind a few holes in the roof and the dashboard and inter galactic miles on the clock a silver volvo s80 will probably be a bargain!
the other thing people have been rattling on about this week is madonna adopting a child from malawi. personally i think its up to her what she does but am interested to know at what point of anyones earning capacity or being a celebrity does the public suddenly get the right to tell anyone else how to live their life? i suggest that people take a good look at their own lives, scale down the numbers then see what they are doing in the way of good for the world. it seems to me far to many people have far too much to say about other peoples lives without considering their own. so there you have it a little bit of personal comment for the week. now onto more mundane things like the loft conversion.
this week has been an interesting one. after completing the downstairs ceilings rich and jamie our builders have started to focus on the upstairs and removing the old ceilings from above. the week started with some very heavy rain and on monday night marg had an interesting experience. having got up during the night she was sat in the lounge half asleep when half the ceiling in the lounge bay window collapsed letting in loads of water etc. (photos to follow) this was a bit of a surprise and the following day was spent clearing up the mess and removing the rest of this ceiling. on the positive side this will be replaced and insulated properly. we arrived home on tuesday the find a thick covering of dust virtually everywhere because the builders had forgotten to hang a dust sheet over the stair well! the dust from lathe and plaster ceilings being taken up is horrendous! needless to say we now have a dust sheet in place. the rest of the week has seen more removal of old ceilings and stuff from upstairs into the mother of all skips. another week of demolition should hopefully suffice and then we will start to see some progress with the construction. heres hoping anyway.....
did you hear about the priest talking to his young congregation saying that sex before marriage is wicked. its not bad after either commented a recently married young person....
