allo, allo.....

ello nighthawk this is london calling.... yesterday was steves birthday and for a surprise treat we took him to the theatre. Not quite the west end i have to say but a performance of allo allo by the tavistock operatic society. why - you may well ask - go to see that. well one of the main characters was none other than his grandad ie my dad who is knocking 78 going on 60. to be fair the performance for an amateur group used more to musicals was quite good especially the guy who played rene the cafe owner. apparently this was the first play acting he has ever done and he is by day a local sheep farmer. his stage presence was excellent and he carried the character exceptionally closely to gordon kayes original tv character. the gay german grouper was also well played. the rest of the cast including the colonel schmelling (my dad) were acted well making it an amusing couple of hours. apart that is from the lighting guy who obviously got his finger stuck on the strobe machine on switch and almost had multiple epileptic fits throughout the auditorium. the warfe theatre in tavistock is quite an attractive little theatre used by the community for various drama and musical events with a bar and eating area.
since this blog is verging on the newreportingeducational style i might as well include what is planned for this weekend. ie marg and i are taking steves camper van to exmoor and trying it out for three nights. we are looking forward to getting away for a couple of days and exploring the north devon/ somerset coast from a base in porlock. hope i will come back with some good pics to upload to my fickr account....so heres hoping...
