Mountains, mackintoshes and magic...

So here we are in the centre of Cork on a sunday morning and thank goodness the sun is shining. Cork is a lovely city, very european with lots of trendy shops in fact probably one of the best shopping centres around. They have obviously spent a fair bit doing up the georgian buildings which form the basis of all the main streets and added bits of stainless steel and excellent window displays to make it look pretty cool. All you need is a few million euros and you could shop till you dropped. Yesterday we visited Cobh (Cove) where the Titanic sailed from as did the famine ships emigrating from the potato famine to america and the convict ships to australia during the 18th and 19th century. The exhibition about all this was really well done including film footage and multi media FX. It rained heavily in evening and we ended up catching an indian meal and losing the car! Today we are off to the coast - Kinsale is an ancient port with narrow streets etc - we shall see. Also need to take a break today as Marg is falling asleep and the irish trip will be just a dream. [Of course, as you know, Russ never falls asleep!!! (Marg)] Just remembered, on the way to cork we veered off towards the mountains to get a good view of the area and went up a stretch of 'Magic Road' (only the irish could have one of these) you think you are going downhill, stop the car and it rolls back UPHILL - either an optical illusion or maybe just the effex of the guinness!!!!
